October 9 (6:00 – 9:30 pm)
The Food Expo will highlight the importance of consumer choice when it comes to sustainable foods. Four local Bay Area Renowned Chefs will each prepare one course of a meal. Each course will have two menu choices, for the purpose of impact comparison.
The food expo will begin with a welcome reception at the City Club, where Iron Chef Simon Majmudar will speak about his new book. Food wholesalers, retailers and manufacturers as well as producers and researchers will be invited. The food expo will illustrate how the U.S. food market is leading the way forward in sustainability.
From Iron Chef fame, Simon joins the LCA of Foods Expo Dream Team!
As Executive Chef at Fifth Floor Restaurant, Bazirgan has been on the San Francisco Chronicle’s Top 100 Best Restaurants in the Bay Area three years in a row.
Decorated Chef Michael Munoz from the host site City Club brings his expertise to the Expo Team.
Participation by local celebrity chefs is planned, with each chef preparing one course. Cooking demonstrations will focus on menus and dishes that showcase sustainable food choices and ingredients. The goal is to show that real sustainability needs to be reflected through the entire value chain, and life cycle thinking can affect consumers’ decision making process while selecting food products and brands.
The food expo will also showcase the Californian wine industry and its increasing efforts in the field of sustainability. Wine tasting from Napa Valley and Sonoma Vintners is planned throughout the evening event on October 9th.
